Abstract

The purpose of this research is to be able to find out and describe how the free education program, and teacher work motivation on the academic achievement of students of State Junior High Schools (SMP) in Kabupaten Kayong Utara. This research uses quantitative methods with a descriptive approach. The research sample is 45 teachers and 96 students. The criteria for the sample of teachers include civil servant status, certified, undergraduate degree, aged 25-55 y.o. The criteria for the sample of students include having an NISN, class IX, aged 15-17 y.o. Data collection method used a questionnaire consisting of three variables. The collected data was tabulated, then measured using a Likert scale. Data analysis used SPSS 25 for tested the validity, reliability, normality, linearity, and hypothesis test. The main findings of the research are: (1) the free education program has an effect of 42.6% on the academic achievement; (2) the teacher's work motivation has an effect of 59.4% on the academic achievement, and (3) the program and teacher work motivation have an effect of 46.1% on the academic achievement of student. The implication of this research is that the free education program is still feasible to continue, but local governments must maximize socialization through various channels, both conventional and social media. Teacher work motivation must continue to be improved jointly between the school and the local government considering the importance of teacher work motivation which has a direct impact on increasing student academic achievement.
