This research explores the integration of tolerance values in Islamic religious education at SMPN 4 Ponorogo to form an inclusive, just, and civilised young generation. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study reveals various effective strategies, such as social interaction-based teaching, the use of creative media, and the integration of tolerance values in the curriculum and extracurricular activities. Data obtained through observations, interviews, and document analyses show that a holistic approach is the key to success in instilling tolerance values. Teachers have a strategic role as role models, using contextual teaching methods that involve students in group discussions, analysis of social issues, and experiential learning. The Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin program strengthens students’ character development through cross-cultural activities, such as art and interfaith dialogue, which provide real experience in appreciating diversity. The results of this study are in line with the tolerance theories of classical scholars such as Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun, who emphasised harmony between people as the core of Islamic teachings. The findings show that Islamic religious education that integrates the value of tolerance plays an important role in creating social harmony and preventing conflicts based on differences, while supporting diversity as a strength in building a peaceful and inclusive society.
