Abstract

This study aims to deeply examine how digital parenting practices implemented by members of the PKK women’s organization in Tugu Village contribute to the development of golden character values in early childhood amid the dynamics of the digital era. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, participants were purposively selected from PKK mothers who have young children. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation related to PKK activities and patterns of gadget use in daily parenting. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis, involving coding, theme categorization, and meaning interpretation to identify patterns of digital parenting practices within the community. The findings indicate that mothers adopt three key strategies in digital parenting: (1) intensive supervision of gadget use, (2) consistent screen-time regulation, and (3) careful selection of educational and religious content that supports moral development. These strategies not only aim to protect children from the negative impacts of digital technology but also optimize digital media as a tool for character education. Furthermore, the PKK community functions as a collective learning space that strengthens members’ digital literacy and parenting competence through regular discussions, experience sharing, and community-based mentoring activities. The synergy between digital parenting practices and community support effectively fosters discipline, responsibility, empathy, and morality in young children—core elements of golden character. This study concludes that intentional digital parenting combined with the active role of the PKK community as a family learning center can optimally shape children’s character in navigating the challenges of the digital era. The findings highlight important implications for strengthening family digital literacy in rural areas and emphasize the need for community-based mentoring as a sustainable strategy for early childhood character development.
