Modeling Symbol dan Aplikasinya dalam Konseling Kelompok: Tinjauan Konseptual

The phenomenon of increasing complexity of psychosocial problems in adolescents and individuals in group settings demands a more creative and meaningful approach to guidance and counseling. One of the developing approaches is symbol modeling, which is the use of visual, verbal, and action representative symbols as a means of modeling in the group counseling process. The purpose of this study is to examine conceptually the theoretical and practical basis for the use of symbol modeling in group guidance and counseling services. The method used in this study is a literature review that collects and analyzes various scientific sources from relevant journals, books, and research results. The results of the study show that the modeling symbol approach has a strong foundation in social learning theory and behaviorism, where symbols play an important role in identity formation, behavior regulation, and the meaning of group experiences. In addition, symbols are able to increase group cohesion, clarify communication structures, and encourage an indirect but effective value internalization process. The conclusion of this study confirms that symbol modeling is a potential and applicable strategy in improving the effectiveness of group guidance and counseling, especially in creating reflective space, encouraging active participation, and strengthening more meaningful and sustainable behavior change.
