Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of learning media on early childhood language development in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Language development is an essential aspect of early childhood education because it supports children's communication, interaction, and social skills. However, the implementation of learning media in ECE institutions is still not optimal, which affects children’s language abilities. This research employed a qualitative approach using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Data were collected from 30 relevant national scientific journals published within the last ten years. The journals were obtained from Google Scholar and SINTA databases using keywords related to learning media, language development, and early childhood education. The data were analyzed using content analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that learning media such as pictures, videos, word cards, picture storybooks, audiovisual media, and interactive media significantly improved children’s language development. The improvements were observed in speaking skills, listening skills, early reading abilities, understanding instructions, and communication confidence. Visual and interactive media helped children become more active, focused, enthusiastic, and confident during the learning process. In addition, the effectiveness of learning media was influenced by teachers’ creativity in selecting and implementing appropriate media according to children’s characteristics. Therefore, learning media play a crucial role in supporting early childhood language development and should be implemented optimally in early childhood learning activities.
